My diagnosis for breast cancer was the summer of 2022. I was very surprised given my healthy lifestyle of being very active and eating well. My age at the time was 64. When all the cancer results were in I met with my breast surgeon who recommended Dr. Southard. They were not practicing in the same office but had a history of working together. I had intended to consult with two or more Plastic Surgeons (a couple were also female) before I decided which one I wanted to take me through the mastectomy to reconstruction. I met with Dr. Southard first. I never met with any other Plastic Surgeons; I didn’t need to. From the beginning she was patient, knowledgeable, and just provided the comfort and reassurance that I never expected from a physician.

These days I feel too many doctors treat you like an insurance number. Dr. Southard has the attitude of ‘taking care of her patient’ like we use to see in the 50’s & 60’s. Here it is a year later and I have had reconstruction. I’m feeling great about myself knowing not only have I helped reduce my chances of recurrence of breast cancer but that I have maintained my physical appearance. Maybe even say I look a little better given my age of 65 now. I would recommend Dr. Southard to any woman whether you’re having elective breast surgery or breast cancer has shown up in your life.
